Information To Know

What is a Board and Care Home?

Moving to somewhere unfamiliar and new in our twilight or elder years can be difficult. Even with the availability of nursing homes and assisted living facilities (ALF), most of us would prefer to grow old in the home we've lived in for years. However, circumstances such as health or other care requirements may prevent this accommodation. Fortunately, there are accommodations that can serve as a compromise in the form of board and care homes. Also known as residential care, personal care home, or domiciliary care this service provides board and care for residents in a familiar, cozy and quiet home setting. Board and care homes are less expensive than assisted living facilities and nursing homes and do not provide 24-hour medical attention from health care providers.

What is Transitional | Permanent Housing?

Transitional housing (TH) has taken on different meanings and forms through the years. Though it takes many forms, transitional housing broadly refers to a supportive community that offers temporary housing for different segments of the homeless population or those experiencing a crisis. Transitional housing is temporary housing for certain segments of the homeless population, including working homeless people who are earning too little money to afford long-term housing. Transitional housing is set up to transition residents into permanent, affordable housing.

Permanent housing (PH) is defined as community-based housing without a designated length of stay in which formerly homeless individuals and families live as independently as possible. Permanent housing refers to what the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) calls permanent supported housing, which provides affordable housing tied to supportive services, such as ongoing addiction or mental health treatment, case management, and help with life skills.

What is Reentry Housing?

Reentry programs/services are designed to help returning citizens successfully "reenter" society following their incarceration, thereby reducing recidivism, improving public safety, and saving money. Stable housing with appropriate supportive services is a key factor in preventing homelessness and reducing recidivism.  The goal is to reduce barriers to public and subsidized housing, and advance promising models that improve outcomes for people who repeatedly use corrections and homeless services.

Transparency is KEY when working with case managers and parole officers to prepare for adequate placement. We work closely with case manages, outreach organizations, probation and parole officers in search of a structured sober environment befitting to the needs of their client(s).
